Let's Get Started

“I view art as a medicine that proceeds through different phases of creation and reflection.”
— Shaun McNiff, Art As Medicine

What happens in a session?

  • Each session opens with a check-in where you can share where you are at in the present tense. For example, “I’ve had a great day. Really feeling tingly and bright.” It’s great to include physical sensation awareness to let ourselves arrive fully to the session.

  • A light physical warm-up.

  • A theme for our session is introduced.

  • Exploration of the theme happens next depending on desires and curiosities of the client. These ways can encompass writing, drawing, sculpting, moving, singing, meditation, painting, origami, fabric arts.

  • Discoveries are shared.

  • Closing

“Expressive Arts Therapy is not about being an artist, it’s about using art to create a better life.”

What’s my Therapeutic Style?

  • Sessions are client led. Which means I look for cues and clues from you to see what materials or themes might be helpful to explore during our session. I make suggestions and you get to approve what we dive into. For example, I might suggest, “Do you want to explore this theme in writing?” And you might respond with, “Actually, I want to play with this kalimba I brought today.”

  • I seek to provide a safe and welcoming environment where we can explore creativity together to access our inner knowing.
